3 Simple Ways to Spiritually Cleanse Your Home (Plus: How I Can Help if You Want a Deeper Cleanse)

Your home is more than just walls and furniture—it’s your sacred space. And just like we track in dirt from outside, we also bring in energy: stress from work, heavy emotions, conflict, or even other people’s vibes. Over time, that energy builds up and can leave your space feeling heavy, stagnant, or just… off.
Luckily, there are simple and powerful ways to spiritually cleanse your home. Here are three of my favorite methods to help clear negative energy and bring peace, balance, and lightness back into your space.
⸻
1. Smudging with Sage

One of the most well-known cleansing methods is smudging with white sage. When burned with intention, sage helps clear negative or stagnant energy and purify the space.
How to do it:
• Start by opening a window or door to give the energy somewhere to go.
• Light the end of a sage bundle and let it smolder (you want smoke, not flame).
• Move slowly through your home, wafting the smoke into corners, closets, and doorways—anywhere energy might collect.
• Speak or think your intention as you move: something like “I release all energy that does not serve this space. I welcome peace, love, and protection.”
• When you’re finished, safely extinguish the sage in a fire-safe bowl or sand.
Note: Always use sage (or any plant) respectfully and intentionally. It’s sacred, not just a trend.

2. Sound Cleansing with Bells or Singing Bowls

Sound is vibration—and vibration is energy. Using bells, chimes, or a singing bowl can break up stuck or heavy energy in your space and bring in lighter, more balanced frequencies.
How to do it:
• Walk slowly through your home, ringing a bell or playing your singing bowl.
• Pay special attention to doorways, windows, corners, and places where energy might feel dense.
• As you move, let the sound carry your intention. Even a simple “Clear and cleanse” will work.
• The shift is often immediate—many people say the space feels brighter or lighter after sound work.
This is also a great method if you can’t burn anything due to smoke sensitivity or building rules.

3. Sweeping Away Negativity

Sweeping is an old-school, often overlooked form of energy clearing that works wonders—especially when paired with intention.
How to do it:
• Start at the back of your home and sweep toward the front door (or whichever exit you choose).
• As you sweep, imagine you’re moving not just dust, but also stagnant energy out of your home.
• You can whisper an affirmation like “I sweep away all negativity, leaving only peace and clarity.”
• Once you’re done, sweep the debris out the door—or toss it into a trash bag and take it outside.
• For an extra boost, add a pinch of salt or protective herbs (like rosemary or lavender) to your broom or floor wash.
